'Jewel in the Realm'
Felted raw wool with machine embroidery. 2016
A collection of sculptural garments and bowls inspired by the Medieval Cistercian Monk's struggle to discover absolute poverty and solitude but instead finding themselves running Britans lucrative and opulent wool trade.
Unwashed, un-carded, un-coloured raw wool, sourced from a local farm, was used to create a worn and organic felt to reflect a search for poverty by the Medieval Cistercian Monk.
Rich colours and embellishments encroach the habit and bowls as their humble sheep farming turns to a wealthy, lucrative business known as 'The Jewel in the Realm'.
